Considering that effectively it's a kit lens (paired with D600 it goes for less than 400 eur), I'd say it's acceptable. There were some obvious corners cut, however what else can you get for full frame for this price? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Sad' />

The only viable alternative would be Tamron 28-75mm, maybe?
