Bokeh itself is not a reason to buy a portrait lens to me. I agree with Studor 13, skin rendering and sharpness are the most counting things to me as well. Bokeh, however, can cream down a nervous background - and if I only have a lens I know of it's bokeh is not the strongest, I still can decide not to take portraits in front of a background which itself is demanding in terms of high contrast small structures or weird and wild colours.
The thread was about a "bokehish" lens and I have to agree with the others I saw better samples of bokeh. The models wont loose their attraction to us viewers if the bokeh would be better. I recently learnt a method to improve this nervosity of background and tonight I will try that with one or two of the pictures. But as it is done manually and individually, it takes time to do. As always, it's better the lens performs well.
