Sony E 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS (Sony NEX) - Review / Lens Test Report

Thanks. Interesting product, pity there's no support for the lens. Presumably Sony considers the body to be capable of withstanding the force that the lens applies to the mount, when fully extended. Imagine the Sony Alpha 75-300mm f4.5-5.6 plus Sony LA-EA1 adapter would be more stable, as it provides a tripod mount point forward of the body. How does the length of the 18-200 fully extended compare to the adapter plus 75-300 fully extended?

The NEX was not designed for tripod use for sure (which seems fine regarding the target market).

The 18-200 is big, no doubts. The 75-300 will be even longer though. The 75-300 is a drive-screw AF lens and will as such not provide AF on the NEX.

You will need a SAM or SSM for that and the AF will be substantially slower in any case.
