Not necessarily. I have one slim filter, a Käsemann polarizer from B&W. The outer thread is 1mm shorter than the distance to the filter glass. So, each lens which doesn't look more than 1mm over the front ring is on the safe side. And except the 14-24, none of my other lenses has a front element coming out of the front ring.


But anyway, hands off cheap filters, or at least, check if they do not touch the front lens.
