Nikon F-mount is about 4cm from the film/sensor, not 18mm. That is a big difference, where optics and angles and involved. But more importantly, Nikon F-mount has the contacts tucked away so that FF is not a problem.

Yep, that's why I said mechanically. I'm not sure Sony hasn't forced itself into a quandary with the lack of forward thinking. Then again, this rumor might be false altogether, or Sony may choose some other, unexpected direction. Who knows?
