Fun(ny) camera history facts
#13
Canon was not alone in 1981. While Canon introduced an AF lens with could work on their MF cameras (FD-mount), Pentax went another way: They introduced the Pentax ME-F, with an AF lens, the SMC AF Zoom 35-70mm f2.8.

Unlike the Canon lens, which had its own AF system, the ME-F has a through the lens AF system, which meant it could only function on the ME-F and not on other K-mount bodies.

The ME-F was the first AF SLR, followed by the Nikon F3AF in 1982.
