well as an alternate point of view and a diversion here ..... i don't know why canon nikon sony haven't just joined the mft crowd instead of doing their own thing - too small a sensor/can't change the lens/too big lenses or they don't work - seems silly to me -

surely the more the merrier, think of all the lens designers you could have - maybe it's just a handicap race and there're giving the little guys a head start

I see no good business sense for Sony, Canon, Nikon to join m4/3 format. Oly/Pana already have a somewhat ok range of coverage between them, so why would you try to wrestle a piece of an existing small pie? You have bigger potential gains (as well as bigger risks) by doing something different. The NEX bodies has its charms, even if the lenses aren't really there yet. The 1 I think is technologically the best mirrorless system right now, but they need time for refinement to really show its full potential. And more lenses would help too. I'm still waiting to see what Canon does, but the big sensor compact is not a mirrorless system alternative. It is just a big sensor compact.

I think only smaller players or platform agnostic players have anything to gain from joining m4/3 at this stage. And even then, they're just fighting for the crumbs. A niche within a niche.
