I've owned one of those and used it on my D700 - with pleasure <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> It's less contrasty then the current N 24-70 and more suited for portraits, IMO the rendering of skin is nicer. The current 24-70 being a bit sharper across the frame and punchier in contrast/colours, suits me better for landscapes. I've heard the 28-70 is prone to AF motor failure but I had no problem at all.
