I always carry a small backpack with my things and my camera in it, but no camera bag, so I had quite a few accidents with slipping caps.

The only one which never failed me is this:

However, it's a pain in that the base is plastic and screws into the filter attachment, which can cause vignetting when stacking filters and make more cumbersome to attach and remove a polarizer.

The white balance setting function of the cap is less than reliable, so I just use it as a, hemm, cap..



Otherwise, a friend uses a slip-in neoprene cover and my dad had this hard-leather cover for his nikonos, which he then would regularly toss in with is fishing and scuba gear with no apparent damage to camera or lens over the years, but I wouldn't necessarily reccomend that <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />
