Actually, that's where I prefer the zoom ring personally. Not sure about others, but I prefer to hold the lens at the front, not the rear end, when shooting. So for me it makes perfect sense to place the zoom ring there (and that's in fact one of the major annoyances I found in the 200-400 VR).



Agree about the size, though.
