The STM version is pretty decent -- I have that one. You laid to rest my (fledgling) interest in the USM version by stating that optically they're the same.
And yes, Rainer is correct: these versions are distinguished by the type of the motor. Aren't all of them "current" at the same time because of this? (I'm not sure about the very first, "vanilla" / AFD one).
