Tamron announces 17-70mm F2.8 image-stabilized lens for Fujifilm X-mount
#2
This anouncement is great news.

The Tamron has very good sharpness across the frame at all apertures and focal lengths. It's at its weakest at the long end, although it's still good wide-open.
Optically, its only weakness is bokeh: highlights show very noticeable onion rings.
It's also a very large lens, much larger than the Fuji 16-80 f4 and 2cm longer than the Fuji 16-55 f2.8.

Here is a summary of the Tamron vs the Fuji 16-80 f4:
  • The Tamron is sharper at all focal lenghts and apertures
  • The Fuji has better bokeh and perhaps a more pleasing rendering (I like the rendering of the 16-80 despite the poor sharpness in the corners)
  • The Fuji is much smaller
Here is a review of the Tamron from Dustin Abott on a Sony body:

The lens I'm really waiting for for Fuji, is the "new" Sigma 18-50 f2.8.
Tiny, fast, and with a still useful focal range and nice rendering (better bokeh than the Tamron for sure).
