lightweight decent replacement for canon 24-105L on 5Diii
#4
24-85 is alright - I'm using it a lot, though not on FF. The negatives are the flimsy plastic build, lack of IS (it's a lens from 1996 after all) and lessening IQ towards the long end (the CA are pretty noticeable at 85mm even stopped down, FYI).

24-70/4 IS is the more realistic option, but it's still in another class with regards to size and weight. Frankly, if someone considers the 24-105L large, it cannot be helped in a reasonable way. The difference between the 24-70/4 and the 24-105L (first version) is only 70 grams. The 24-105 STM would help shave another 75 grams but it STILL has the same 77mm filter thread so the size advantage is slim at best...

The 24-85 is noticeably smaller than each of those with 67mm filter threads and 380mm weight but then the buyer should ask whether these savings are worth it if he's still using a relatively large FF camera. To me, it sounds a bit of an overkill, trying to save on matches as the saying goes.

The 28-105 doesn't seem to be a particularly good lens. I've had no firsthand experience with it but just look at the TDP comparison...
