going to sri Lanka do I need any new lens?
#1
Next month am going for a five day vacation in Sri Lanka which is an unexpected gift

Needless to say I will be shooting.

However I am wondering if I will need any new lens.

I will be taking with me 5D plus 24-105f4L IS

Trying to live with a one lens. Do you think this is crazy or should I bring other lenses. If I need other lenses those who have already been there do I need lenses on the tele or wide end ?

I'd take an extra smaller prime for food photography and when you would like a tad less DOF or tad less bulky combination, like the EF 50mm f1.8 STM or EF 35mm f2 IS USM. Or even the EF 40mm f2.8 STM.

Depends on what you expect to do there. Personally I would be seeking out native wildlife so a long lens will be a must, but if that isn't planned or of interest, it wouldn't be worth it.

got 28f2,8 50f1.4 and 100f2,8 macro was conidering the macro or buying locally the 85f1,8 since the seem cheap there what do you think

I'd take the 50mm f1.4 with me then. Macro I have never used while on a trip, and you already have 100mm with you in the zoom. 50mm is versatile, with f1.4 when desired/needed. Whether you then buy a 85mm f1.8 there or not is a separate issue.

I've done more than one vacation with just the 5D and the 24-105L ...

I never came home disappointed. It is a reliable combination that

"delivers". The images taken at the wide end need more attention

in postprocessing (correcting the barrel distortion).

That said, most times I have something wider with me additionally ...

either the 17-40L or the Tokina 10-17 fisheye.

Just my 2cts ... Rainer
