Sony's E-mount roadmap 2014/2015
#1
Updated ....

The superzoom was inevitable. Smile I thought only Fuji has so far resisted the temptation, although from a purist's perspective, they've been "degrading" steadily - from starting out with a 35/1.4 ("Fast primes! Yippee!") lens to doing a 18-55/2.8-4 ("Alright... at least it's one stop faster than the norm!") to 16-50/3.5-5.6 ("Boohoo... it sucks but at least it goes to 16mm...") I can imagine the uproar if Fuji X system jumps on the superzoom bandwagon sooner or later...

Ahem. The 28/2 and 35/1.4 look interesting, although the latter has already caused quite a bit of criticism over at FredMiranda.com - for being "too damn large". Guess there's no pleasing some people, as the very same inhabitants of FM's Alternative gear section have crucified the FEZA 35/2.8 for being "too damn slow" less than a year ago...

This doc shows more unnamed lenses for 2015

I don't get why they release so many large lenses

And why is the Distagon 35/1.4 FE ZA so much larger than the Distagon 35/1.4 ZM ?

Conclusion: They want a 35mm f2 Wink

More serious: the 35mm f2.8 just is slow, one wants FF for more DOF play, and then the 35mm not even being f2 is kinda odd. But now they will get a 35mm f2 and a 35mm f1.4. The 35mm f1.4 is rather big for the tiny A7 bodies.

The Distagon 35mm f1.4 is a typical Sony/Zeiss lens, with AF and more "modern" approach, the Sony Zeiss lenses usually have little in common with the traditional or other Zeiss lenses. The ZM is a more classic design, and MF.

I don't understand why pretty much everyone has to rail against the ZA lenses as not being "Zeiss" enough.  Huh

And BC, it's not like there's a dearth of 35/2 lenses out there, innit?  Wink I'm sure the forumers would've found a bone to pick with the native lens if it had been released, but in the absence of one, there's a boatload of adaptables to choose from (some even with AF, like a Minolta 35/2 - though I'm pretty sure it's hard to find now - and some even better, like the new Canon 35/2).

Maybe  it's time to remove this outdated roadmap?
