There is no real reason for Canon not to implement it in the 5D mk III firmware... But you can use f8 anyway with the 5D mk III, Just make sure you tape off the right pin (in needed, and use the center point. A bigger thing that should be brought to the 5D mk III is the red AF point light implementation of this new 1D X firmware.
