To attempt to buy market share could be an expensive exercise against the entrenched market domination of Canikon. I look at the A99 as a combination of a corporate statement that Sony is here to and prepared to fight it out and to provide an alternative for those that all ready are using Minolta or Sony cameras. It is a strategic statement especially if followed up by a second model in 2013.
It is largely too late to convert established Canon or Nikon shooters at this level, this is about attracting future new users. The Nex system has diverted many customers to Sony so I would expect a FF Nex 9 in 2013 to be a more dangerous tactical attack on the duopoly than the A99 will be.
