New camera, new lenses and new technology
#13
Judging from my samples, the 35/2 AFD is a LOT noisier than the 50/1.8 MM. I also don't like the 50/1.8's AF consistency. At least on my sample, it is unreliable at longer distances. This is not a micro-adjust issue, it just isn't very consistent. But it is ok at shorter distances where it might be more commonly used.

Anyway, back to the pancake, we have to remember that size is the first reason for its existence. The specific focal length and relatively low speed are likely significant contributors to that. If I got one, I'm not sure what I'd use it for though. I do like around 35mm on full frame more so than 50mm, and I have previously used the Panasonic 20mm pancake a lot too. Compared to the Panasonic at 40mm f/3.4 effective, the Canon is still faster, although of course micro4/3 gets a body size advantage to offset that.
