well, I later saw the word stepper motor. Yes, it's not the same as a DC servomotor, but both are "conventional" electromagnetic (EM) motor (versus piezo in USM).
I never saw a precise definition of what canon actually uses in lenses that state "micromotor".
anyway, just found this, so I guess it's possible to make cheap piezo:
