60 year old meters were not standardized on ISO 100. Nor was film. You already had many different sensitivity films. They were rated in DIN or ASA.
I just had to check almost 60 year old Zeiss Ikophot. In case I remembered it wrong. But that about 60 year old light meter (1950?) can be set to ASA 6 to ASA 1600, or DIN 9 to DIN 33. I can not remember having seen any light meter without adjustable film sensitivity....
I even checked my older Practos (funny thing, that Practos). Even that uses a scale of ASA 3 to ASA 800 and DIN 6 to DIN 30.
Obviously, my Metrawatt Metrastar from the 1970's has selectable ASA and DIN settings too (upto ASA 12500 and DIN 40). All will meter fine with whatever ISO setting one would dial in on whichever digital camera.
So, if you set your ISO on your FF camera to 400, for instance, the meter will meter fine. It will also meter fine when you would for instance set ISO 100 on for instance a Panasonic GF5. Just make sure the meter is set to the corresponding ISO/ASA setting too.
Using an old hand light meter has NO impact on understanding that sensors have a fixed sensitivity, which gets amplified with different amounts for different sensors. Nor do they limit you in ISO setting choice.
