Interesting point. I guessed so before here in the forum but this confirms it.
However, the 24mp sensor will (or at least) should have a reduced thickness compared to lesser resolution sensors because the sensor itself is already a low-pass filter for most lenses. The AA filter is mono-directional (horizontally) but that was also the case on the 14mp NEX 5/A33 sensor.
I suspect that it has to do with the micro-lenses. They are smaller and more densely packed and as such they've a different characteristic. Possibly they are just spherical again (as opposed to an optimized shape dependent on the position).
