There is indeed a software application that can be used to "profile" the monitor, but if you want to do it right, get a real device for it.
As Joachim already pointed out, the real value of the colour management engine is its central position in the OS and the availability to every application that uses the default APIs.

iTunes is the central store for music and other media, that's a given one has to get acustomed to. Once you do, you'll find it to be a capable program.
Apart from that, with the iCloud service you now have additional options to get your data and files onto iOS devices. You can even sync over WLAN now (on Windows, too, AFAIK).

I'm fully with Joachim here: if you don't need the best performance, use a virtual machine. It's simply so much more convenient. If, however, you need every bit of performance (like for games), than Boot Camp is the better, in fact the only real option.
