There are almost no lenses that will NOT show more resolution with a D800 than with a D3X. In other words: the D800 will show more resolution, almost regardless of what lens is used.
Even if that were not the case, the D800 will never show less resolution than a D3X, or a D700 for that matter. And since print size is the defining factor, not pixel level sharpness, it is a pointless subject. The only downside to higher resolution of the sensor is bigger files.
Anyway, the pixel pitch of the D800 is not higher than many of the APS-C cameras....
