It took me a while to figure out what you meant by reversing the zoom mechanism. I went through the permutations: opposite turning direction? Can't be that... did they swap the zoom/focus rings over? Nope. Then I saw the old one has a reverse extension effect, where it was physically longer at wide angle. Was that such a bad thing, since in the original review that was mentioned as a positive effect when using the hood.
