It's certainly an unusual lens design. [Image: wink.gif]

Well - for me personally the nikon 1 is not a system that interest me; I'm waiting for nex and fuji pro results or even [u]4/3 <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Pentax Q also doesn't interest me much.

Also to be quite frank even if I did follow nikon 1; the lens is too slow - sort of like the new oly 12-60. I can understand giving up a little speed for size; but is this really much better than a high quality super-zoom fixed lens camera ?

This is to ugly to comment on <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> Not sure what Nikon was thinking here. I am sticking with my Pen <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

.... well.... thing is that Markus looks to be spot on re. the lens appearing to be for moving pictures more than for stills, which seems to be a multimedia nikon approach now (d4 / motor zoom / face recognition etc) ..... and this is good, but i like stills, so the 10-30 & 30-110 would be the go and do look fine, as does the system ..... quality looks v good for such a system

.... but for me it's an interesting read more than a look, make comments and buy as i already have gear that does that kind of stuff, although at 4-5X the actual size of the gear .... and, for those who are not familiar with moving pictures, there might be a tad more to it than just 25 stills per second, nice but not the same

.... so, thanks Marcus for all the work (always nice to read) and i hope nikon does well with the gear - it looks good (um, picture quality wise :-) - but it's not easy to open a new segment of the market

Indeed, with that weight, I can get a Tamron 18-270 and put it on an APS-C sensor camera ... Oh well,

Well, I'm glad to see the Nikon 1 reviews are finished (all 4 of the lenses) so you and Markus and get back to reviewing lenses for more serious systems <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

More seriously, I just don't 'get' the Nikon 1. Noisy, cooked RAW, limited DoF capabilities and limited controls on the bodies. They're not even particularly small. The PDAF tech is impressive, but without appropriate lenses and sensor, it's not that exciting on its own.

Thanks to all of you.

I must admit the V1 is a somewhat strange camera. Personally, I just don't get used to the small sensor, even though the camera itself is quite capable.

I wonder if there's interest out there to test a few selected Nikon lenses on the V1 (via FT-1). I'm thinking about the AF-S DX 40, DX 35 and AF-S 50 (both of them), maybe also the new AF-S 85/1.8. Comments?

I'd say that given the 2.7x crop factor the 35DX would make sense as some sort of portrait lens. The 85 is somewhere in no-mans land IMHO. The Sigma 150 could be an option. The question is whether there's a market for this (and as such for potential reviews).

I would prefer Nikon classic reviews from you now actually . ;-)

Well, the 50mm and 85mm would qualify as tele primes. And they're still small enough to fit the V1, me thinks (applies also to the DX 40, at least until a native Nikon 1 macro lens is announced).

The 150 is currently unrealistic I'm afraid, I'd need better weather for this to get the charts outside <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> I'm also not sure if it would work on the FT-1 at all (haven't read about 3rd party lenses being used on the FT-1 so far).

Don't worry, they're coming. Plus Leica M, of course <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Perhaps try some really long stuff to see how good it is for birding etc. The 70-300mm VR Nikkor, and/or the corresponding Tamron zoom, and/or the 300mm f/4 Nikkor could be of interest.
