Well, the D700 is a scaled down D3, while the upcoming D800 is expected to be a high resolution camera that doesn't share the sensor with the D4, but lives in (or starts) its own market segment (together with the 5D III).

I still hope that what happened with the D3 family will stay the same for D4: a D4x with higher resolution (maybe the rumour mill guessed the model name wrongly concerning the 36mp FX sensor <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />), and a D800 with the same 16,2MP FX sensor... As a D700 owner, I wouldn't expect much more detail from the 16,2MP sensor compared to the old 12MP. But the metering and AF improvements, new EXPEED-3, better high ISO performance, 100% VF, better LCD (maybe with vari-angle) etc... What would I need more? <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
