Nikon will still have to make a camera that competes with the 5D MKII, so I don't believe in the theory that the D800 will be hugely expensive and a huge leap from the D700. I guess 16MP and good video capabilities like the Canon at a comparable price. I am not sure Nikon needs a 36MP super camera after the announcement of the D4, but assuming they do, a D4x would most likely be the high MP successor to the D3x, not the D700. Market logic almost never lies and Nikon needs to compete efficiently with the 5D MKII. The D4 is not a revolution, just a nice evolution with available technology and I think the D800 will be exactly the same, a D700 with up to date video capabilities and probably the same sensor as the D4. Price increase from 1700 to 3000, maybe, maybe less. The D3S has gone from 4300 to D4 at 5800, say 30%, expected to go down quite rapidly when delivery gets up to speed. Nikon is anything but suicidal, so doubling the prices are not in the books.
