Well I believe competing products should not only be compared based on the sensor resolution. Besides, the competitor for 5D2 was not only the D700 but also the D3 (unfortunately). Surely the sensor itself is one of the most important criteria, but think of an advanced amateur with a decent lens collection. Is it really wise to migrate to other brand after selling these nice glasses for a low price and buy new ones just because the target body's sensor has more resolution?... And furthermore, how many amateurs' first camera is the FF format? I believe the majority of amateurs who own FF format come from cropped format users of the same brand.
Anyway, I hope that we see what we'll have on the table soon... I'd like to see an affordable D800... 16mp or 36mp, as long as the other features are OK, I plan to grab it...
