Visiting Munich
#1
Just got confirmation today I'll be in Munich next week on work travel. Held off posting this until sure in case things change like the earlier Saarbruecken trip that never happened.

So same questions: any suggestions on things to do/see? I will probably have two evenings free so not much time anyway. I will be staying in the area just a little south of the centre area so should be a short trip on the subway.

Currently I only intend to take the Sony HX9V with me as my E-P1 is unavailable.

Well, the touristic hot-spot is the historic city hall with the current christmas market (Underground Stop: Marienplatz) - you can't really miss it. This is also nice in the evening. Expect a zillion people though at this time of the year.

From there on you can stroll around - there's lots of stuff there.

Other than that:

Make that a zillion and one!

I did visit the area around Marienplatz last time I was there. It was summer 2008 before I got seriously into photography. There were zillions of people there then, so I didn't stay long and retreated back to the hotel. Still the Christmas market looks interesting enough I think I'd risk another visit one evening.

I'll have Tuesday to Thursday evenings free although with an early start on Tuesday I'm not sure I'll go anywhere that evening... thanks for the link, will have to go through that in more detail later.

Things just got a bit better, I will likely have Friday free now <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> And I notice the zoo is only a few stops away from where I am anyway. Has anyone been there before? I notice on the long range weather forecast it could be cold and wet then too... I'm tempted to bring a DSLR too now...

Wasn't zillions of people in Marienplatz, and the rain might have played a part in that. It started snowing while I was there. Found the Glühwein so I'm happy... really wished I had a fat DSLR with a fatter prime to go with it while there.

Need to decide what to do the next two evenings. Took over 130 shots on my compact today as it is.
