The beginn of an experiment

Its over. I was out street shooting yesterday. What works well on the sofa doesnt work at all on the street. You cant use the touch screen in actual shooting. Every accidental touch changes your settings. When you need to shoot, you have to set up your camera all over again which costs time and forces you to miss shots. Of course you can switch off the touch screen function, but then the handling becomes unbearable. The camera really needs the touchscreen to be efficient to use. The camera also wakes up from sleep made from every accidentral touch of the screen on the cost of battery life. Not good. Also, after prolonged usage my hand hurts from trying to reach the control wheel. It just doesnt fall naturally under any of my fingers. Every time you change your aperture or dial in an exposure compensation you are forced to awkwardly twist your hand. I dont get why sony didnt put the only wheel on the top of the camera, so that it falls under the thumb or the indexfinger.

Its really sad, I so much wanted to like this cam. But I cant. Its ergonomics are just bad. Dont buy if you are the kind of photographer who constantly changes his setting.

That's a pity. I really like the touch interface of the Panasonic GF3. If you disable the touch shutter function (which is amplifying hand shake anyway), there is nothing you can change by accident but the location of the focus point. I would even say that I can change certain things quicker than on my D90. If I want to change ISO for example, I can touch the setting I want on the screen (after pressing one button). No need to rotate a dial over many clicks for this. The ability to set the focus point to an arbitrary location in the frame is very nice, too.
