The 40mm Macro sounds like an excellent idea <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

That, or the Tamron 60mm f/2 macro. Call me a fanboy but I fell in love with it in the (very) short time that I was able to use it (on my 1D Mark II N so Canon mount). Very sharp wide open already and since that's f/2 the lens is very suitable for portraits as well, serving two purposes at once. I don't have any experience with shooting macros so I couldn't really test it but in the few closeup shots that I did make it seemed like a very strong performer. The only drawback is old-school AF but my only fast prime, the 50mm f/1.8, is even worse in this regard anyways.
And I'm not on Tamron's payroll. <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />
