ejmartin discusses on his website the Nikon approach towards RAW compression, which "is lossless in that the image is still encoded without loss of visual information", while Borg is discussing the Sony way of doing it. My levels of knowledge are insufficient for a verdict concerning the validity of Borg´s arguments, I suppose careful testing could show whether there is a point to it or not.
