I have not been talking about the 18-55 VR all the time, only mentioned it in my LAST post, because you started to talk about the VR all of a sudden. The 18-55mm II image sample is not in focus either, also terrible. Which made me say that the lens/camera combination seems to not focus well, which you should look into.
I posted a crop of a worse performing 18-50mm f2.8 EX DC. It shows the problem with the images you posted. And I did not even use a tripod, and no live view to get focus spot on either.
So, again, address the issues with your images first, before you think it can prove it shows the PZ results to be wrong.
None of the images you posted show a sharpness that one would expect, and if that is really how all those lenses perform, they would have gotten even worse MTF scores than the 18-35mm reults you are so unhappy about.
