Right ok sorry didn't think of that,just seems a shame to give up so early in the game! Just another thought have you tried the 50-135 on another K5? or even on another pentax body? Another thing that I've found is:- when mounted on a tripod using a object to focus on,autofocus on the object at full aperture,then stop down to say F8/11 autofocus again and see if the focus ring refocusses at a different point,if it does it(which I found with my tamron)it shows that the camera is making some unnecessary algorithm compensation. I think Pentax has been juggling about trying to compensate for focussing errors and the result is it never really nails the point naturally,this effect certainly causes focussing problems with the tamron 17-50 even if it's only slight.I did that test with chief engineer over the phone both of us on our tripods, me with the tamron him with the pentax 18-55 and he was surprised that the point of focussed changed (even though the diaphragm is always open) on stopping down.It seemed that nobody there had noticed that problem.Maybe they've added it to the list? Doesn't help the likes of us much though!
