Nex-7 will be compared to Nex-5n (when Nex-7 is reviewed). A77 was rightly compared to A55 by DPR. The 24 MP sensor behaves exactly like the 16 MP at higher ISO when it is downsampled to 16 MP, as also confirmed by Dxomark.



As for translucent mirror penalty, this is already well known to be 1/2 stop more noise.



Basically, the 24 MP sensor is superior to the 16 MP senior. It has more resolution at ISO 100-800, and at higher ISOs you can downsampled it to 16 MP and get identical noise to the 16 MP sensor.



This can be seen in IR samples. Upsample 5N to 24 MP and 5N can't match the detail of Nex-7
