I wouldn't surprise if A77 would come close to A55 noise results... OTOH, the sensor on the 5n is the revised / enhanced version of the sensor in A55... I doubt that Nex-7 can reach 5n's performance on higher ISOs (1600 - 3200 range)... I agree with Martin... The sensor of 5n on the Nex-7 body would be a killer...

I don´t know what is it with the manufacturers (esp. Sony & Canon) - why do they think the target group for A77/NEX7 would prefer more pixels at the expense of higher ISO performance (and partly resulting per-pixel sharpness)...?? Maybe there are really more photographers in the target group who prefer this but I certainly don´t have this feeling at all based on various forums and various random feedbacks. Maybe Sony´s marketing polls and research talk contrary to my opinion, I don´t know of course.... In fact I´m not against pixel increase (to get me right), however, I believe it should go hand in hand with the sensor technology advancement. For instance, I would not protest if Nikon would come up with the successor of D3s which would have lets say 26mpx yet equal or even slightly better noise+DR+per-pixel-sharpness performance than the original D3s 12mpx sensor. I still think if Sony had been able to concentrate all their progress&development in sensor technology into 16-18mpx sensor with clearly unrivalled output, it would have been bigger success than the 24mpx APS-C which is for sure kind of marvel too, but the output clearly shows its limits as well as Sony´s high software effort to mask it... So are my ideas & requirements on sensors really so weird today...?
