I care about this topic since I am very dispointed by the fact that all modern Nikon zoom lenses have no dof scale, and modern Nikon G prime lenses do not have a good dof scale. If the Merklinger method works really good at least in most situations, then no dof scale would not be a problem any more. I wonder how many photographers use the Merklinger method in practice, but I know many professional landscape photographers use and recommend the traditional dof method and the hyper focal distance skill (and they said nothing about the Merkerling method).
