If the Merklinger method works really good at least in most situations, then no dof scale would not be a problem any more. Exactly my point also... And frankly I'm not sure I got how one can maximize DoF in such cases... E.g. 20mm FL with f/10 resolves 2mm and beyond (when focused to infinity) does not cling a bell in practical terms... Or maybe I am missing something...
