Yes. Setting the lens to MFD have the front element almost touch the subject. Doable but not very practical.

That is why I mentioned the 24mm f2.8 as being maybe a better choice, due to its short build. you still are left with 29mm at MFD (1:1.5), and 37mm at infinity setting(1:2).

To each his own. I prefer not to use extension tubes as much as possible and like to have the tilt ability to control the placement of the DoF.

Oh, i agree with you there.. the 24mm TS-E is a super lens, and gives you the ability to control the DOF plane AND gives you the 1:6-1:3 magnification range the 24mm f2.8 +12mm ext. tube does not give you.



So, yes, it certainly has its plus points. The 24mm f2.8 combo has its plus points if you want more magnification (more working distance to the subject and even 1:1 capability with 25mm ext. tube).



I can totally see why you like using the TS-E.
