Sooo... what's the verdict on 18-105 DX VR vs. 16-85 DX VR? Is the latter worth the money in your opinion?

I have made a lot of tests with D7000 and 18-105 VR and 16-85 VR and in my case there is a huge difference between my two lens. In my old body D90 the difference was to small but om D7000 is huge.

I search someone who was made the same test. From the result on this site is looking that the two lens are very close. I don't think so. I think the tested piece of 16-85 VR is not good. Check it please with another copy again.

I have asked that same question in the shop when I was about to buy the 16-85.

Is it really worth the extra money?

The shop assistant told me: "It is better than the 18-105 in some way, but not worth the extra money especially if you are only interested in the optical quality"

Well, I bought it anyway. And all I can say without proper testing, but just by gut instinct, the 16-85 is better on a D90/D5000 than the 18-105 - especially in the 18 to 35 range.

I have access to both lens, and my budget is limited, but I never regret spending the extra money.

Thanks Markus for the re-test!
