If the copy you try focusses accurately on your 40D, I think yes, it would do great for your needs also.

Borders wide open usually do not matter THAT much, as depth of field anyway is very shallow... so, nice for tests, but usually nothing to worry about unless very extreme softness.

I also took a look on flick and I have to recognize that numbers photos that I saw had something close to the final result that I'm searching for.



I will pass by one of the photo store close to me to try it myself
