Tamron 10-24mm max aperture at 24mm?
#1
I'm currently shopping for a wide angle lens for my Pentax K-x, so I've been reading reviews of all the usual suspects. When I was checking out the review of the Tamron 10-24mm f3.5-4.5 on this site, I noticed that one of the sample photos (the maple leaves) shows that it was taken at 24mm and f/3.5. I thought this was strange since I would have expected max aperture to be f/4.5 at the end of the zoom range.

Figuring it was just a typo in the review, I downloaded the full-size image and used PhotoME to view the EXIF information. But this also shows 24mm @ f/3.5! According to the dpreview.com review of the Tamron 10-24mm, at 20mm and above, the max aperture is f/4.5.

Can anybody explain what's going on here?

Hm, interesting ...could probably be an image made with another lens that somehow slipped in there. I will check when I get home this evening.

Maybe not directly related to your problem???

My canon mount tamron 70-300 VC shows EXIF data at 300mm

1.Lens max aperture 5,2

2.Image Aperture = 5,6

3. F=300mm

The same is valid for other focal lenghts. There is small difference between Lens max aperture and actual aperture of image.

Howerver this phenomen has not been seen on my Tamron 17-50 non VC

I am terribly sorry, that image is indeed not from the Tamron 10-24, it's from the Sigma 24-70.

I shot those leaves with both lenses and unfortunately did not sort the images carefully enough. I will of course replace the image with the correct one, however I shot those leaves at 10mm with the Tamron.

Sorry again, but thanks a lot for spotting and reporting the mistake.

Thank you so much for clearing that up, and thanks for all your great reviews. They've been so helpful to me so many times. And the abundance of sample photos with the wonderful photography are just great, so keep up the good work.

If I could just make a single suggestion while I have your ear, it would be to start including the date of the review. That's always a piece of information I look for (and miss when it's not there).

Thanks again!

That's of course a simple addition for any future review. Not sure though if we're able to add that information to all existing reviews.
