Maybe not directly related to your problem???

My canon mount tamron 70-300 VC shows EXIF data at 300mm

1.Lens max aperture 5,2

2.Image Aperture = 5,6

3. F=300mm



The same is valid for other focal lenghts. There is small difference between Lens max aperture and actual aperture of image.

Howerver this phenomen has not been seen on my Tamron 17-50 non VC
