but I'm also aware that any weight reduction I gain will only come from the camera body alone. Notice there isn't any f/2.8 zoom lens in the m43 and NEX/Axx line-up? Pairing up a f/2.8 zoom lens with a mirrorless camera body (that is armed with a m43 or APS-C sensor) can only lead to a poorly balanced set-up.
m43 cams are clearly not made or ideally suited for f/2.8 zooms. A relatively fast m43 zoom, perhaps a 12-50 mm f/2.5-3.3, lives in the rumor mill, but nobody knows the eventual specs for sure. However, aside of non-existant f/2.8 zooms significant weight reductions in the m43 world are of course realized by the lenses as well as by the cam bodies. m43 is in essence a light weight/small form factor system, which may or may not offer everything to replace or complement a DSLR line-up.

I think the smaller mirrorless (GF/NEX/E-P) will probably most appeal to compact upgraders.

Not only compact upgraders, but also those who want to take casual pictures on their way to work and home but cannot accept the OQ of Iphone...and those lured by M mount lenses but either cannot afford a Leica body or doesn't want to bother shooting film...

I never said that was an exclusive group, but possibly the most significant one. Certainly the reduced mount distance opens the opportunity to use a lot of lenses not easily possible on SLR, but I think that is relatively niche to more advanced photographers.
