Not really impressive but very affordable for what it does.

Interesting review. Do you also plan to test it on APS-C?

My brother has a Canon 40D which he uses with an old Sigma 500/4.5 (the aperture doesn't work, so this lens can only be used wide-open), but he would prefer to use his K10D instead. The problem is that Pentax doesn't offer any long tele lenses, so he's quite limited to Sigma lenses. Would the 120-400mm on a K10D be a suitable replacement (for wildlife photography) compared to a 40D + 500/4.5 combination?

Sorry, but 500mm equiv. is the current limit for testing.

YGWYPF. Not very surprising.

Thank's for the test Klaus ... albeit it didn't disclose something unexpected.

Is a test of the EF 100-400 on FF on the radar?

Just a few annotations to the test itself:

- "This isn't unrealistic but for the sake of a higher reliability should shouldn't really try to exploit this to the max."

Something arounf the "should shouldn't" is strange here.

- Optical Quality: Two stars to two stars

Hmmm ... is this more on the "two star side" or on the "two star side" ? ;-)

just my 2cts ... Rainer

Thx for the corrections! :-)

I reckon the 100-400L will be tested during march.

Thanks for the review, Klaus.

How about some Pentax reviews? Did you get your K5 back?

The K5 as well as the 18-135 are here by now. I reckon that there will be a review during the next 2 weeks.

Aha. This explains why this lens is not labeled EX.

The new 50-500 OS is also no EX lens - despite the substantially higher price tag compared to the discontinued 50-500 EX.
