Tokina AT-X 16-28mm F2.8 PRO FX

The spec's and the price of this WA zoom make it quite interesting on paper!! Has any of you had any experience with it or seen a test? Second, what is the normal quality level of Tokina at this "pro" level? I am considering it for a D700 and the competition is the Nikon 16-35 f4 or the 14-24f2.8. What say you Klaus or Michael or anyone else for that matter

The 12-24mm f4 DX APS-C lens was the UWA wide angle from Tokina that made them have a good name, but that lens is a lens with a serious design/component fault concerning the aperture mechanism. The 11-16mm f2.8 DX APS-C lens from Tokina bettered it optically, making it one of the best APS-C UWA's available. After seeing the sample images on D700 (the same Japanese site that BC shared actually), I told myself to go for it. A PZ report on FX would be very useful (especially for comparison with 14-24mm) but you can get a lot of info from the sample images (assuming that they're not post-processed): Check the vignetting and bokeh on wide aperture shots, check the distortion, and check the sharpness and color rendition on various samples. Still have reservations for the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8 (regarding it's exceptional IQ and wider angle of view), but I can't help asking myself, why pay almost a doubled price for 7 degrees of more AoV?
