Hi folks,
I have heard about some reliability issues with some cameras but never foundany serious data about it.
For example Canon 40D has some reliability issues and needs repairs freqently what about the others??
any serious data about it?

The danger with data is the reader should know how to interpret it in addition to recognising the numbers...

I am not interested in 40D
I was looking for data about different cameras reliability and known issues.
Usually only repair shops have those data, but are they willing to post them? especially most repair shops are owned or run by the manufacturers.
Does anyone know about such data?
Personally I prefer buying new, a one or two years warranty is worth the extra $$$ but even for new gear, reliablilty data is very important.

Sorry to say but, it looks like reading too many forums has weakened your ability to interpret statistics.
Any major issues that cameras have get acknowledged and addressed by the well known manufacturers a couple of months after they're released. Everything else is very likely to be a one-off problem or a user error/opinion.
If you're so worried about the reliability of a new camera model, why not get a slightly older model that has been around for long enough for people to evaluate, then? But again, when people complain about well-used/abused cameras breaking, don't think this is an inherent problem with the camera.
If you're looking for a mass produced camera model that has never had a single problem in its production history then you're likely never going to find one. Manufacturers keep adding more and more features = more things to break in the future models.

Well this is simply not true,
many cameras and lenses have frequent occuring problems unlike others.
some examples in Canon land.
Stuck aperture blades on canon efs 18-55mm, its IS sister doesn't have this issue although more complicated.
autofocus engine failure on canon 50mm f1.4
There are plenty of such examples.
Can anyone a reliable source for cameras reliability??

I have never heard of stuck aperture blades with the 18-55mm non-IS, nor with the IS one. With the Nikon 35mm f2, yes.
Engine = motor, I presume. Be glad you do not have a Pentax.
No, there are no "reliable sources".

What makes a problem a "frequent" one? What are the failure rates in percentages of the products? How many of the "problems" are actually operator "problems"? I would not be surprised if a substantial amount of lens and camera returns are because of the lack of understanding on the part of the user.
