It's quite widely known that Nikon and Sony have some relationship when it comes to DSLR sensors. For example, the sensor in the D3x is a modified one of the one in the a900/a850. The D300 sensor also seems to be similar to the a700 sensor. Nikon themselves have admitted to this here and there.

Like Brightcolours said, it could be due to the lack of ventilation because of the fixed mirror.

Yes I'm afraid the best guess would be that fixed mirror... I've heard/seen no issues concerning K5 or D7000.
What about the other video equipped DSLRs, are they heatproof for longer video shots?.. I'm really asking because I don't have video in my DSLR.

I really don't know but it seems to me this Nikon - Sony relationship is sometimes a little overblown, often by "prediction gurus".
Can anybody point to some press release or literature about their partnership?

It would be very unusual to announce such kind of an agreement publicly. We'll never know about the degree of the relationship but Nikon has developed LBCAST sensor for D2h & D2hs in the past. Ok, LBCAST was not a ground breaking innovation but at least shows that it is possible that they can have the ressources to design a sensor.

The K5 does not use Sony SSS. It is pretty well possible that the Pentax IS mechanism produces less heat, it is sure that the Pentax IS is less effective. The Olympus cameras do not use Sony SSS, and they have smaller sensors. Canon and Nikon do not use in camera IS.
It is very clear that the biggest problem with the A55/33 is the SSS in combination with its live view. The mirror preventing the camera to cool via the lens is just a part of it.

Huh? We already know that the 12mp CMOS from the D3(s)/D700 is a Nikon design. And that the D3100 has a sensor not matching anything from Sony too.
We also know that Nikon's 6, 10, and 12mp sensors were Sony sensors. And that the D7000 is Sony based is no secret either.
