For Klaus: lens for testing
#1
Hi Klaus,

Would you be interested in testing my Pentax SMC-F 50mm f/1.7 lens when you are ready to resume Pentax testing? (with hopefully a K-5 in your hands).

I find this lens to be very sharp at f1.7 and I'd be very interested in knowing how it really fares here.

Thank you.

Out of curiosity... as compared to what?

Compared to other Pentax lenses like the Pentax FA 50mm f/1.4, DA* 55mm f/1.4 , FA 35mm f/2, etc.

I think to help other users looking at this and wondering why?

The F50 f/1.7 has a reputation on some Pentax sites as being the sharpest of the 50mm f/1.7s which in turn is generally reckoned to be sharper than the 50mm f/1.4s. There was a removal of an ingredient in the lens manufacturing process between the F series and FA series due to it becoming illegal. You might have to be careful here, a result in the negative could create a crash in the Pentax 50 f/1.7 market carefully nurtured over the years <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I personally believe that they are looking at the wrong 50 series... The sharpest of all the Pentax 50s is the f1.2 in 'K' or 'A' spec and it may well be the best of all the uber fast 50s. You are more than welcome to borrow mine for a test if you wish Klaus.

Thanks but in Pentax land the tests will be limited to DA/DA* lenses plus some third-party lenses. Tests of discontinued lenses are a rare exception to the rule.

The K5 + 18-135mm is still not available ...

Perhaps an exception could be made for the A50 f/1.2? it is still available new, assembled in Vietnam. It would be like a Zeiss or Voightlander, manual only but with electrical contracts.
