oops, off topic, off topic alert -

please . . . dear sony's at the top of this page and dare i suggest that an existing 24mp sony pointing in the right direction and with um <img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' /> auto focus cz's, super sigma's, and, ahem, a very fishy eye and (whisper) a 500reflex does occasionally produce at least one or maybe two full frame pictures that may or may not rival those obviously more illustrious and favourite brands . . . whoever they are -

and i suppose maybe when dear sony does manage to crowd even more photo sites into an ever smaller space other companies might be interested too, you never know . . .

<img src='http://forum.photozone.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' /> Well written and right on! Agree, even if I am one of the trespassers! Say, is that Springfield, Ohio, or some other field? Kindly Vieux Loup

I don't trust any cameras from a camera maker that modifies the RAW files without the user's consent. Also such cameras are pretty much P&Ss with lots of buttons.

Well, getting back to the topic (e.g. Sony).

What I would like to have in SLT camera, is real-time flash metering - like OTF in film camera.

Regarding 500 Reflex, there are good news and bad news.

The good news - with this lens you can see lunar craters on 10MP Sony A100 camera too.

The bad news - this lens is discontinued - there was a message on dcwatch several months ago.

Hallo all of you!

Last time I calculate to change system from Nikon d700 to Sony a900 or similar SLT. I only use 24-70/2.8 which is not so similar in Zeiss incarnation, 70-200VR first edition (which need to be better because of lack VR), some wide zoom 12-24 sigma (could be the same on Sony world) and Tamron macro 90 (same possibilities like 12-24). But lenses are more expensive on Sony side!?! Also Sigma could not perform so well on 24Mp. SLT concept for me is some have close to mind. Is fix mirror at least ‘eat’ one stop of light? Reason to think to change system is that I have in last 1.5 years my 24-70/2.8 three times at servis. No one kit lens behave in such way.

From Sony SLT I realy want the same or better AF (like Nikon), good processor and some more nice lenses. I will not bay 500/4 this year (and probably next year, too).

Have a nice evening. Janez

The Sony/Zeiss 24-70 is CHEAPER, the last time I checked. The Sony 70-200mm f2,8 is better optically than the 1st gen. Nikon 70-200.

Sony has some awesome macro options available too, most beat the Nikon 105mm f2.8 VR easily.

The Sigma 12-24mm is quite a bit better than internet would suggest. Especially since one uses such a lens closed down. And it for sure has a hell of a lot less barrel distortion than the Nikon 14-24mm.

About the 24mp remark: The Sony A850/900 with Sigma 12-24mm will get a lot more detail than a Nikon D700 with 14-24mm.

SLT has 3.5 real drawbacks.

1. You lose 1/3rd (or 1/2, depending on who to believe) of an f-stop of light. Not even close to 1 stop. And 1/3rd stop is really NOTHING to worry about. I know I would not.

2. The SLT will give ghost lights from dusk till dawn.

3. The SLT closes off the sensor assembly from the lens. While this means it does prohibit the sensor to get dust bunnies, the compartment will heat up, and the camera will not lose that heat to the lens. The constant live view (working sensor) and SSS heat up quickly compared to other cameras.

4. The SLT means no optical view finder. Not something I would choose.
